I have to admit, as far as mother-in-laws go, I got pretty lucky. I had to remind myself that we first met by me emerging from the woods to their house for some family event on a motorcycle, with my leg immobilized in a cast from a softball injury, useless and propped up on the highway peg. I can imagine the thoughts that crossed her mind wondering who Sherry had gotten herself mixed up with. Thankfully, she gave me a chance to prove myself and hoping I passed the test. I think I did.
Soon after Sherry and I married and we settled into our first home in “downtown” Lakeville, we decided to wallpaper our living room. Wouldn’t you know Marlene had some experience and offered to assist. Since Sherry was working evenings then, it was just me and Marlene so I was a bit apprehensive. Thankfully, my fears were unfounded and I was able to spend a few quality hours with her talking about everything under the sun, where we really had the opportunity to get to know each other well. I’ve only appreciated her more and more as we all progressed through the years – much of them with Sherry and Marlene operating the tailoring/monogramming shop in town.
They are all good memories so I’ll certainly miss her but will be forever grateful that she didn’t initially judge me from that first meeting and instead welcomed me into their family and laid the groundwork for a lasting bond that has survived over 40 years now!
Marlene passed early this morning. Thankfully, Sherry was able to return to MN over a week ago to be with her through the transition. I hate being away from all of the hugs but it’s the same as when my mom passed a few months ago. Someone needs to stay behind and care for the critters and now is my turn. But I anxiously await Sherry’s return home.
I believe we took delivery of the new generator in October and just now getting around to hooking it up properly. Since Sherry is up in MN visiting family and friends this week, I figured this was a good time to get it hooked up to the house.
I do relish these projects when she is gone. Once, when she went to CA to see her brother, I took down a wall between our kitchen and living room. That was quite the mess to come home to but it was all worth it in the end.
This storm shelter sits about 40′ out behind the house. With the basement dug out in the house, the shelter was no longer needed and sits unused.
I was also surprised to learn that generators are NOT weatherproof and need to be protected from the elements so I put 2 and 2 together.
I mounted an access box to the exterior stairwell enclosure. The generator will plug “in to the house” here.
This will handle 120v/240v and 50 amps. From this box, I ran 6/3 NM-B, Non-Metallic, Sheathed Cable back to the main fuse box in the basement.
Here, I’ve got the new cable entering the box, all the 4 leads cut to length and stripped and the new 50 amp breaker wired up and hanging loose in front. I had to do this all VERY CAREFULLY with the power still on. However, at this point there was no going any further so turned off the main breaker and ran a long extension cord from the barn to light up what I was doing next.
I shouldn’t be surprised that the only 2 available spots to mount the ground and common wires were in slots with stripped screws so had to combine a few of the smaller gauge wires to free up room for the big fat 6 ga wires. But, I got them all securely installed.
Then of course, because of the lock out device, I had to install the new breaker on the left side just below the main breaker, which meant everything else on the left side had to slide down 2 slots to make room. Luckily, they all had enough wire “play” available to easily move them down a few inches to make room.
This “lockout” device protects power company linemen from getting zapped while working the lines during outages. It assures that power you are generating is NOT sent out to the grid and is isolated to your house only.
This is a temporary solution as the goal is to energize the entire farm (4 buildings). For that, I’ll need a similar hook up box for the power pole where our meter is located. That will be coming in April from our electric cooperative.
Now, I’ve got to figure out that secure door to the shelter.
A loudmouth, arrogant narcissist facing mutiple criminal charges who presided over a strong job market, no new foreign military adventures, tax cuts, energy independence, and foreign adversaries held at bay in puzzlement over his tough exterior and unpredictability -or-
An even more unlikable, older senior who shuffles, mumbles and forgets, who ignited the invisible tax of historic inflation by wild spending, opened the border to an invasion of more than 9.2 million illegal aliens, killed energy independence, had no response to Russia aggression downing a U.S. drone in international air space and a Chinese espionage balloon traversing across the entire country. And whose family faces documented questions about suspicious money transfers of large sums to them from China, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Russia etc.
If it were up to me, my choice would be the option that trounced Haley in Nevada – “none of the above”. But, to make such a non-choice would be extremely dangerous to our democracy. (Where have I heard that before?).
I’ve been schooled that the decision should be based on morality by one who supports backing a hair sniffing pedophile who frequently creeps out young girls, sexually assaulted his aid when he was in the senate, inappropriately showered with his young daughter, thoroughly messed up the minds and lives of his children and endorses the murder of countless innocent lives right up until they are born.
For my take (yes, I am allowed that here), I will go on record to state that (just as I did in 2019), that 77 is too old to be going into office and this time Trump has reached that milestone. He’s also beginning to show signs of deterioration so my hope is he picks a rock solid VP that can and will be effective when called upon because it may be sooner than we think (beyond the seditious games the left will immediately initiate before he even takes office).
In the meantime, I fully expect or better yet DEMAND that Trump immediately rectify the several years of blatant corruption we’ve been through. As much as he irritates me, he’s the only one who can assure that justice is done and all these crooks are held accountable for knocking this country completely off the rails. Although paying for their crimes should be part of the solution, exposing them for all to see is of utmost importance for there to be any healing.
They know it and the resulting PANIC is obvious. The trouble is, the more apparent it becomes, the more desperate THEY will become so expect anything to impose martial law along with a suspended election, or they’ll just take him out Epstein style. I think any of those scenarios will light the fuse to their demise in a way that this country may never recover from.
However, what’s likely going to interfere with their plans is Chinese aggression towards Taiwan. For the more it appears Trump will win, the more likely China will act before he takes office as Biden will be helpless and clueless to stop it. So, expect some movement there before November – likely this summer.
Yes, the disastrous economy is showing minimal signs of improvement, albeit much too slowly to be reflected in our wallets. But, the precipitous fall to this point opened up many eyes to many other disastrous policies that are now greatly impacting our lives.
“Biden, who never was much of a political salesman even in his prime, has shown he’s utterly incapable of driving home his administration’s message. Over three-quarters of Americans (76 percent) now have major or moderate concerns that Biden doesn’t have the mental and physical health for a second term, according to the NBC poll“.
I’m still trying to figure out what catch phrase they are going to come up with to spin the past few days disasters. All I see so far is more gaslighting that “everyone forgets a name occasionally”, Mumbles just showed “he is human”, while trying to convince folks that “he is one of the sharpest knives in the drawer” and he works late into the evening each and every day. Again, no one is buying that anymore with the latest poll (ABC News/Ipsos) reporting 86% agreeing he is no longer fit for office. His coming out and confirming that perception didn’t help matters any. Skipping the softball Super Bowl interview only re-confirmed it.
But, it’s a fine line to walk between declaring yourself competent, when that would mean you should be liable for charges that you skated away from because you were deemed not competent.
I guess the positive aspect of this is that he finally fulfilled a campaign promise and unified the nation. 86% is about as unified as it can get.
Glancing out the front door last night, I saw a “shape” out in the driveway in front of the garage. Knowing the dogs were inside, I thought it was a stray so was ready to chase it off when I saw it turn a bit and take a few steps. There was no doubt what it was – a PIG! Before I could grab a light and have a closer look, it meandered down the hill behind the garage and disappeared into the pasture.
This morning, I went out to take a closer look and saw many prints around the firepit but the ground wasn’t disturbed so it’s doubtful an entire sounder of ferals was wandering through and was more likely a domestic that got loose. I believe the Amish neighbor across the road has a few pigs so will ask him about it.
Regardless, reading up on it, feral pigs/hogs are quite a problem in Missouri and many other states. A farmer friend a few miles up the road had quite a problem with them and had the conservation department come to run them off. Even though they are considered pests and invasive nuisances, they recommend NOT shooting them as that action is detrimental to the goal of eliminating the whole group.
It’s an interesting read and likely something we’ll have to deal with sometime in the future so it never hurts to be ready. I thought it would be interesting to set up a few trail cameras anyway – just to see what wonders by.
Back when we graduated High School, I helped a friend (Martin) “process” a pig that he raised for a pig roast at his grad party. I wish I would have paid better attention back then. My only “processing” so far has been a single rooster and is something I’ll need to work on. But, I’m sure those chances to improve those skills will come soon enough.
Since the last thread on this topic was once again hijacked, I’ve created another to actually address this topic. The previous thread turned into another sprawling mess that I hope to condense and clean up – eventually.
While the media is now warning us to only get the news from THEM (and to NOT do your own research), others are trumpeting to DO your own research, but only from valid, accredited and vetted sources. The problem with this argument is you’re only getting HALF of the story, and that “vetting” has repeatedly failed them as they consistently end up on the wrong side of the story when the facts eventually emerge.
My take has always been to REMEMBER what the source has stated before to determine if they are credible going forward. However, when you see/hear nearly ALL the established media repeating the exact same script (word-for-word), you really wonder what their motives are and who is distributing the scripts that they all follow. When you hear them all echoing the exact same thing, you can be sure there is no longer any independent investigation happening and they are all simply reinforcing the narrative (aka propaganda).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXfRDC2NKY0&t=3s
It certainly reinforces the news we see lately where legacy media is crashing with failing revenues and viewership, while independent sources are rocketing to the top and thriving.
“Because for an industry that owes its existence to the trust of its readers and viewers, most of news media decided instead to play the arrogance card and take advantage of that trust.
Rather than being merely the observer and then objective reporter of what’s happening on the field, today’s journalists got the bizarre idea (from who knows where) that they are as good or even better than the actual players and thus inserted themselves in the game. This despite the fact that no one actually wanted to see them on the field”.
I will admit that this can be extremely dangerous to our democracy as many independent sources lack the standards to research and verify their sources and only exist to reinforce their views. However, as we learned from the Hunter laptop story, the alternative is those striving to control every aspect of our lives taking over to decide what is truth and those with memories can easily recall how well that worked out.
“one researcher told NSF officials “broad swaths of the public cannot effectively sort truth from fiction online.” The researcher specifically called out “military veterans, older adults, military families” and those in “rural and indigenous communities” as particularly vulnerable to believing misinformation.”
Hmmm. They left out those put on watch lists for the unforgivable action of purchasing a bible.
Once again, I emphasize having some recall:
What was reported and by whom?
What happened to opposing views?
After the facts eventually emerged, which position was correct?
The cabal behind the new measures above already tried the “Disinformation Governance Board” which was soundly rejected so have now relabeled it as the “Trust & Authenticity in Communication Systems”.
As always, such efforts show contempt for the American people. They claim Americans could not tell fact from fiction online and that conservatives were even more susceptible than the public at large.
Americans are too stupid to distinguish truth from lies on their own, so they need benevolent leftists to handle everything so that we poor unwashed need not trouble our empty heads over matters that are too hard for us to understand.
Not surprising. These are much the same arguments I’ve had from visitors to this site. They all share the trait of waking up to a new history every day with no acknowledgement of what has gone down in the past.
And here is the latest example. Remember all of the hoopla last week about the amazing “jobs created”? No one mentions the numbers are always inflated upon release but then are ALWAYS quietly downgraded in the following weeks. The rosy January report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics is already crashing.
However, once again, a truth emerges that you won’t see reported in the MSM.
“Birth/Death assumptions” means just that. The BLS assumes that so many jobs were created or destroyed and (kind of) fixes the imaginary numbers when the real data come in. Now you know why jobs always seem to get revised downward. Seeking Alpha adds that “many believe the Household survey is a more accurate measure of employment when compared to the headline number.”
What is becoming painfully obvious to these bad actors is they have lost their grip on shaping public opinion. Of course there are still some who will blindly ignore the blatant transgressions of the past several years, but the vast majority of their support has simply fallen silent and melted away.
So instead, they are forced to play the only card they have remaining by once again censoring any opinion that contradicts the approved narrative.

With so many now getting their news from independent sources, I don’t understand how they think this is going to work.
UPDATE 11/2/2024 Since we are now 4 days out from the election, let’s review where we are at on this topic. The amount of BS spewed out has been nothing but phenomenal, but thankfully, NO ONE is listening to them anymore as their audience dries up and their “journalists” flee the sinking ship.
Here we go AGAIN. Expecting much more of this in the coming months was one of many reasons for starting this forum.

And now we have Meta (parent company of Facebook, Instagram etc.), once again reestablishing themselves on their throne to guard against MISinformation. This would be a good time to review their past history, as well as where/how they generate revenue. utilizing and mainstreaming blatant fraudulent scams.
Watching her latest press conference, I was taken aback by her continual use of being “very, very CLEAR and transparent” about everything so I got to work creating my very very first MEME.
Now using this space to store other pertinent memes.
Who wanted them medium rare? Chuck sure looks like a regular “grilling” dad doesn’t he?
Rarely do the memes and headlines align so well that you can group them together but there is so much craziness (and evil) these days, these occurrences are happening more frequently.
It’s looking to be an interesting spring. At least the chickens will be happy. We even may get a head start on the WEF’s plans for us all. YUMMY!!!
“Get ready for the rarest of rare cicada events. Thomas Jefferson was President the last time this happened and Michigan wasn’t even a state. And no one alive today will be around the next time this happens. Not one, but two different cicada broods will emerge this year, reports NPR.
We’re talking billions and billions of the insects. They will be all over the place from late April through June. One of the broods of cicadas lives on a 13-year cycle. The other lives on a 17-year one. Both will emerge at the same time this year, something which hasn’t happened since 1803″.
